Mandate: To foster playwriting activities across Alberta; to develop a community of persons to support and encourage each other in the writing of plays; to provide programs for new play development; to develop resources for professional development, accessible to all Albertans.

Membership: 160 emerging and established Playwrights and supporters of playwriting.

Serving: approx. 80 Playwrights, 150 actors, and 34 director/dramaturgs in any given year

Some plays that started out with Alberta Playwrights' Network

Einstien's Gift by Vern Thiessen received early development work in 1996. The play went on to a production at The Citadel Theatre and won the Governor General's Award for Drama in 2003.

The Last Train by Beth Graham and Daniela Vlaskalic won the Alberta Playwriting Award in 2003 and was developed through PlayWorks Ink; premiered by Shadow Theatre in Edmonton.

Mary's Wedding by Stephen Massicotte won the 2000 Alberta Playwriting Competition and premiered at Alberta Theatre Project's playRites 2002; won the Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding New Play and was published in 2002 by Playwrights' Canada Press. Thirteen productions across Canada in 2003.

Apple by Vern Thiessen won the 2001 Alberta Playwriting Competition and was produced by Workshop West Theatre in 2002; it won a Sterling Award for Outstanding New Play.
