Mandate: At the CCTC, theatre creators and scholars alike explore new theatrical creation and dramaturgy. We bring together independent artists, theatre companies and researchers to examine and experiment with new approaches to creation, development and production and exchange information about their processes and discoveries.

  • Creation: We develop new Canadian scripts with workshops and conventional dramaturgical support for playwrights. We also extend our support of theatrical creation, embracing innovative uses of multimedia, inter-disciplinary and non-text based approaches, and other new creative processes.
  • We provide space, time and expertise, forge partnerships to generate discoveries in theatrical settings, and explore the diversity of Canadian theatre.
  • Production: We facilitate readings, workshops, and new theatrical productions on our own as well as cooperatively with other Canadian theatre companies.
  • Scholarship: We engage artists, researchers, dramaturgs and scholars in a critical discourse on the rapidly expanding field of theatrical creation and production

Membership: None.  The CCTC works in partnership and collaboration with theatre creators and scholars across the country to bring new Canadian work to production or production readiness and to generate research on new theatre and the creative process.   These creative and academic relationships are forged at the Centre’s invitation or by independent solicitation of the CCTC

Programs: The CCTC is project-based, responding to initiatives and opportunities as they arrive at our door, or are generated by CCTC directors or members.
